Difference Between Pour Homme And Eau De Toilette?

For many men, choosing the right cologne can be one of the most daunting things about putting together an outfit each morning.

There are so many scents available that it can be challenging to determine which one will attract the opposite sex and which ones will create a wrong first impression with your peers.

Knowing the difference between pour Homme and eau de toilette is easier than you might think.

The Difference Between Pour Homme & Eau De Toilette

Though they may look similar, there is a big difference between pour Homme and eau de toilette.

Pour Homme is a more aromatic, concentrated scent for evening wear. At the same time, eau de toilette is a lighter scent for daytime wear.

Pour Homme also lasts longer on the skin due to its higher concentration of oils. So, if you’re looking for a long-lasting scent perfect for a night out, reach for pour Homme.

But if you want a lighter scent for daytime wear, go with eau de toilette. It won’t last as long as pour Homme, but it will still provide a noticeable fragrance for about two hours.

The types of notes in each perfume give them their different scents. Pour Homme has deeper notes like woodsy smells like cedarwood or bergamot (a citrus fruit).

Eau de toilette has softer floral or fruity notes like jasmine or orange blossom.

Many men choose to wear both depending on the time of day.

What Goes Into P.H. And E.D.T.?

The main difference between the two is the concentration of aromatic compounds in the fragrance.

Pour Homme has a higher concentration, meaning it will last longer on your skin and be more expensive. Eau de toilette has a lower concentration and won’t last as long, but it’s more affordable.

The other big difference is that E.D.T. is generally lighter and fresher smelling while P.H. is more intense and heavier. Women’s fragrances are often classified as either Eau de parfum or eau de toilette.

The words parfum and toilette were used by French chemists to refer to classifications of alcohol solutions, parfum being a more robust solution than toilette.

Nowadays, they mean different concentrations for men’s and women’s fragrances.

Eau de Parfum (P.H.) usually lasts up to six hours. In contrast, an Eau de Toilette (E.D.T.) can only last up to four hours because the smell doesn’t have time to permeate our skin as profoundly as perfume does when we sweat.

Can I Wear Both Together?

A lot of people think that cologne and eau de toilette are interchangeable. Still, there are some critical differences between the two.

For one, cologne is usually a lot stronger than eau de toilette. This is because cologne contains a higher concentration of oils, while eau de toilette has a higher water concentration.

This means that cologne will last longer on your skin, but it can also be a bit overwhelming if you’re not used to it. On the other hand, Eau de toilette is a lighter scent that’s perfect for everyday wear.

It won’t overpower you as cologne does, so you can spray it liberally without worrying about offending anyone with an over-the-top fragrance.

You’ll get more uses out of an eau de toilette, too, since its lower oil content makes it evaporate faster than cologne.

How Long Do They Last On My Skin?

The most significant difference is how long they last on your skin. Eau de perfume will last anywhere from 2-6 hours, while eau de toilette will only last for 2 hours.

This is because Eau de parfum has a higher concentration of fragrance oils than eau de toilette.

The higher the concentration of fragrance oils, the longer the scent will last on your skin.

So if you are looking for a more intense perfume that lasts longer, you should go with an Eau de parfum instead of an eau de toilette.

If you don’t mind the short time it lasts on your skin, then an eau de toilette may be more suitable.

Are There Versions Of P.H. And E.D.T.?

There are three common types of fragrance: cologne (or eau de cologne), eau de toilette, and perfume (or parfum).

All three are composed of essential oils diluted in alcohol, but the ratios of oil to alcohol vary.

Cologne contains 2-5% oil, while eau de toilette contains 5-15%. On the other hand, perfume can have anywhere from 15-40% oil.

The quality of an individual fragrance will depend not only on the ingredients used but also on how well it is blended.

A well-blended fragrance will allow its top notes to emerge first; middle notes will become detectable after a few minutes, and base notes will show up later. The more expensive the fragrance, the better it is likely to be blended.

For example, a high-quality perfume might contain over 50 different ingredients to produce all the necessary notes.

These include floral essences such as jasmine or rose; animal products like ambergris or musk; and plant essences like cardamom or vanilla.

Finally, some fragrances might contain synthetic compounds that substitute natural aromatics that are either unavailable or too costly for mass production.

How Much Is The Difference In Price?

The main difference is that eau de toilette contains less than 5% perfume oil, while pour Homme contains more.

This means that eau de toilette will generally be less expensive. Additionally, eau de toilette is typically lighter and more refreshing, making it a good choice for daytime wear.

On the other hand, Pour Homme is richer and more intense, making it better suited for evening wear.

It’s also worth noting that most men choose to layer their fragrances by wearing both eau de toilette and pour Homme together.

6.7 oz. $66.99. ($10.00 / Fl Oz)

Conclusion

Pour Homme is a woody, oriental fragrance for men, while Eau de Toilette is a lighter version of the same scent. Both are composed of top, middle, and base notes.

The main difference lies in the concentration of oils in each fragrance. Pour Homme has a higher oil concentration, making it last longer on the skin. Eau de Toilette has a lower concentration of oils and therefore does not last as long.
